Hello, I have been Sub Branch Secretary for Sunderland Care and Support for the just over 4 years and came into this post because I am passionate about fairness in the workplace for all colleagues and with the backing of UNISON we have had some great successes along the way.

As part of my role I support members with any formal meetings they wish me to attend such as sickness reviews, capability, grievance’s and disciplinary, or if you just need general advise or to query something you have been told.  I also have access to the company’s policies and procedures if you need me to check something.

I have a dedicated team of Workplace Stewards who are also there to help members but would love more members to come on board.  All new stewards receive full accredited training from UNISON to help them in their role.

I attend Joint Consultation Forums which I will now refer to as JCF’s. The JCF’s are where the Employer and the Unions meet to discuss matters of concern or any changes to the service for example: changing rotas or working patterns, restructures and much more.

Update on restructure

The joint trade unions have submitted their response to Sunderland Care & Support’s proposals to restructure the company and to remove some of your terms and conditions.

Philip and the joint trade unions met on Wednesday and it was agreed to pause the process until he has had the opportunity to fully consider the response and discuss options with the council.  We will not be meeting again until Wednesday 19th July 2017.  We will of course update you after the meeting.

The interview training on basic interview skills will go ahead as planned week commencing 10th July 2017.  This is voluntary but you might find it useful to update your interview skills.
