Retired Members

Have you recently retired? Or are you planning on retiring in the near future?

As a UNISON member you are entitled to become a Lifelong Retired member for £15.00, this is a one off payment.  Many staff who worked in the Local Authority took the opportunity to retire but the retired members group are made up of Local Authority, Gentoo, Sunderland College, Sunderland Care and Support, Fire Brigade, North East Autism Society and private companies.

For an additional annual payment of £6.00 you can become part of the Retired Members group who meet 5 times a year from January through to November.  The meetings are very friendly and the topics are relevant to retired people.  The chair and vice chair ensure there are a number of guest speakers spread over the year.

After the meetings refreshments such as tea, coffee and biscuits (free of charge) are available in Café Refresh, for those who want them.

We also run several day trips throughout the year, at an affordable price and a Christmas lunch.

People have told us that it takes some time to get used to being retired. This is why this group is so popular.

Should you be interested in becoming a retired member when you leave your job or you know of anyone who has already retired from their workplace and wants to become a retired member (providing they were in full membership for at least 2 years before they left work) please contact the branch office on 0191 561 2730 or print and complete our Retired Application Form and send it to UNISON, Jack Crawford House, Commercial Road, Sunderland, SR2 8QR.
